FAO's Special Relief Operations Service responds to requests for emergency assistance in the agriculture, livestock and fisheries sectors submitted by developing countries affected by exceptional natural or man-made calamities. The emergency assistance covers a wide number of activities related to urgent rehabilitation of the disaster-stricken areas. The special relief operations service also assists developing countries in the establishment of preparedness and post-emergency measures. Activities comprise: assessment and monitoring of emergency requirements in the agro-economic and livestock sectors; mobilization and coordination of donor support; and execution of urgent relief operations.
