This project executed by the Technical Cooperation Programme of the UN/Food an Agriculture Organization (FAO) is located in Chaletenango Department in northern El Salvador, an area which was greatly affected during the country's 14-year cold civil war. The project brings together all agencies providing funding for programmes in the region and through participatory planning is producing a master plan for development which seeks to integrate the various projects and to guard against duplication of efforts. In this way it will facilitate the rehabilitation of the region. Besides coordinating projects, the plan will identify natural resources and outline how best to use them, identify soil types anf uses, develop irrigation systems, study the economic conditions of the various municipalities and their residents, and help decide which products should be grown where to maximize production and income for the small farmers.
