At Djoumana, 35 fishponds over an area of six hectares have been established for the breeding and farming of the species Tilapia Nilotica (carp). Apart from the rearing of fully-grown fish for sale, fry are bred for rearing, either by pre-cooperatives or private farmers, in their own ponds. The FAO project has established 1 647 ponds at 557 fish farms over a 3-year period at a budget of USD 300 000.
