Year 1949 - Eradication of rinderpest, the cattle disease which kills some 2,000,000 farm animals every year is now a practical possibility, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), reports. During the second world war American and Canadian scientists discovered that by growing the virus inside hen eggs, speedy mass production of rinderpest vaccine is possible.
